“This is a fantastic class! Guy makes learning a difficult language fun and enjoyable. He is a great teacher who is more than willing to help you learn. He does a great job explaining the correct grammar while also providing the common grammar one would encounter with a native speaker. The online instruction is easy to use and allows for great visual aids to assist in learning. If you are looking to learn Hebrew this is the place to do it!”

“The Hebrew course at the University of Alabama prepared me with the language skills I needed for my summer study abroad in Israel. The professor is amazing and the small setting of the classroom was great for practice. Highly recommend this class!”

“Hebrew 101 and 102 were two of the most enjoyable classes I’ve taken in college so far! It is such a unique language, and Guy Antebi is a great professor! He is always willing to help out! The class environment was also very welcoming, and by the time 102 was over, all of the other students and I felt very comfortable communicating with each other! I am glad I chose Hebrew as my foreign language!”

Hebrew 101 was my first class in the Critical Languages Center and this was my first experience in having an online instructor. With regard to this learning process, I feel that it has been effective in helping me learn beginning Hebrew. I came into this class knowing nothing about the language and now I have a good understanding of Hebrew letters and vowels, pronouns, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and even numbers as they all relate to gender. I have learned common expressions, common everyday terms, and also have a better understanding of some of the Israeli culture.
I believe two things have made this online class successful, Professor Antebi and the Brandeis textbook. First of all, Professor Antebi’s Israeli background has provided students with a pure form of the verbal and written language. He has also given students the opportunity to learn about the Israeli culture through music as well as his personal experiences. He has been an excellent teacher in communicating concepts and helping us understand the materials thoroughly. He has challenged us with outside projects and created a very interesting and enjoyable class. Also, his patience in the classroom and willingness to stay after class has helped me to be successful in this class.
The Brandeis textbook has been an excellent resource for this class as it provides practical exercises, chapter vocabulary, dialogues that are recorded on a CD, and a full glossary at the end of the book. Illustrations also lend to comprehension and understanding.
Advantages for this online class have allowed students to learn this language from a very proficient instructor that could not be on this campus. Professor Antebi has created PowerPoint presentations and provided specific notes via email to further our knowledge of Hebrew.
The disadvantages of not having an instructor in the classroom have been minimal to none as the technology has allowed professor and student to interact as though both are present in the classroom. This technology has also allowed students to login from remote locations due to sickness or other conflicts. Without this technology, and the possibility of no local Hebrew instructors, students would not have had an opportunity to learn Hebrew.

“I never thought I would have the opportunity to take Hebrew as part of my college curriculum. My senior year of college, I saw the class was available and I jumped at the opportunity to continue my childhood education. To this day, I still have my Hebrew book in my room to continue learning; as well as my Hebrew keyboard on my phone. It was one of the few classes I looked forward to. Guy was always so helpful and personable. He always had a great attitude and was ready to teach.

The class was fun and rewarding. I felt that it brought me closer to my roots. For so many reason, I am lucky to have taken this class!”
