a city in Portugal

Welcome to Portuguese at the CLC!

With over 230 million native speakers spread throughout Brazil, Europe, Africa, and Asia, Portuguese is one of the world’s most widely spoken languages. Portuguese also shares some grammatical rules, sentence structure, and similar vocabulary with other Romance languages — so if you already speak French, Spanish or Italian, Portuguese is an easy and fun language to learn! To study Portuguese is an asset in today’s global economy, as Brazil’s economy is among the largest in the world.

Bate-Papo

In Portuguese, Bate-Papo means an informal chat among friends. UA’s Portuguese language program hosts a weekly Portuguese Conversation Table, a Bate-Papo, on Thursday afternoons at 5:00 p.m. during the academic year. The event takes place either inside or outside the Student Center Starbucks (depending on weather). All levels are welcome! Look for the Brazilian flag.
