Koji Arizumi (有住幸二) grew up in Tokyo, Japan. He went to Waseda University and majored in applied physics. While in college, he started playing the flute and went on to get a master’s degree (MA) and doctoral degree (DMA) in music. He has been teaching Japanese on Satellite TV/video as well as in the classroom more than 20 years while researching the educational use of technology. Dr. Arizumi also teaches Japanese Literature in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics of UA. He has been Executive Director of the National Association of Self-Instructional Language Programs (NASILP) since 2015.

Pamela is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota and has a B.A. in Humanities from the University of Minnesota. She moved to Tuscaloosa in 1991 when her husband accepted a job as a professor in the Kinesiology Department. She and her husband have three children currently attending the University of Alabama.

Egemen is from Turkey. He received his BA in Counseling from Ege University and MA in Early Childhood Education from UAB. Currently, he is a PhD student majoring in Educational Research at UA. His research interest is “measurement and evaluation in education”. He enjoys playing and watching sports.

Burcu Ozturk is originally from Turkey.  She received her undergraduate of Social Work from Adnan Menderes University, Turkey, in 2010, and her Master’s degree from Temple University in Social Work, 2015.   She worked with different populations. During her undergraduate study, she worked with worked with teenage groups of people who involved in crime, battered women, children, adult and the elderly population.  After she graduated from the school her first fulltime work experience was at Kindergarten, Turkey.  During her master internship, she worked with adolescents in the high school as a therapist. Her interest area is family, children and violence against women.

Guy Antebi has been a lecturer in Hebrew at Brandeis since 2004. Before coming to Brandeis, he had several years of experience teaching Hebrew in the Department of Middle East and South Asian Studies at Emory University, and in The Critical Languages at the University of Alabama. Currently he also teaches at the the School of Hebrew in Middlebury College, Vermont. His special area of interest is educational technology.

Antebi earned a bachelor’s degree in educational technology and Middle Eastern studies and a master’s degree in agency administration from the University of Alabama. Additionally, he has a master’s degree in teaching Hebrew from Brandeis University.

I studied Portuguese in the CLC at the University of Alabama from 2000-2007, as a graduate student, and fell in love with the language and Brazilian culture. It inspired me to make many trips to Brazil so I could learn more about what I was introduced in the classroom. Most of my time in Brazil has been spent in the city of Sao Paulo and its surrounding areas but I have also had the opportunity to visit the northeast. As a language trainer in the CLC, it is my goal to inspire all those who study Portuguese with us to increase their knowledge and to generate enthusiasm for Portuguese-speaking cultures everywhere.

Maria Rosa, also known as Rosemary Mugoya, was born and raised in Kenya, Africa. She received her bachelor of Education from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
